Coding Work

Kia Ora Bloggers, Today I am sharing with you some of my photos from my coding video about not littering. I decided to make bits of rubbish on each side and with a rubbish bin in the  middle saying remember don't litter. Also the rubbish says click on  me and once you click it, it goes in the bin. This message is for everyone who has been littering and they have to stop. I did this because if we litter the birds will eat the plastic etc and they will die because they can't digest it. Please comment if I need to improve on anything I would like the feedback.

Carbonated Drinks vs Mentos

Hey Bloggers, For literacy we did an experiment, which was Coke and Mentos. Then a hypothesis was made, It is I think that any carbonated drink will react with Mentos. Then our teacher got some supplies so we could observe different drinks reacting with mentos. We used L&P, Lift, Sprite and Lemonade. The best reaction was the Lemonade because it went the highest and it was pretty cool. This was really fun and I recommend you to do this. Please comment if I need to improve on anything, I would like the  feedback.

Super Oil

Oil is in and around our world, even in places you wouldn’t imagine. We use oil for cooking but we also use crude oil. The pumping and transporting of crude oil around the globe often have environmental effects. We have looked at various texts and videos to learn about some of these effects, and it ‘good’ timing as there was a recent oil spill (24 July 2020) in Mauritius that we could investigate.
Check out my video to learn more about oil, and see the simulation we did in class about cleaning oil from water.

Did you learn anything?

Super Science Experement

Kia Ora Bloggers, For Literacy we are doing Science Experiments, our experiment was what liquid would melt ice the quickest in? My hypothesis was I think white Vinegar will melt the ice cube quicker because it has salt in it and it would eat away the ice. Please comment if I need to improve on anything or if I should do something better next time. :)

Science Experiment

Hey, Bloggers for Literacy this term is based on Space and Science. First, we had to get into pairs and get two beakers the same because otherwise, it will be uneven and not fair. Then we filled them both equally. After we put the solid one first and it took 1.23 seconds and the crushed up one took 37.97 seconds, so a big difference. The whole tablet would take longer because it had less surface area and the crushed up one had more surface area and it would take less time. Do you like doing experiments? Please comment if I need to improve on anything I would love the feedback.

Aurora Art and Info

Hey Bloggers,
For Inquiry, we had to make an Aurora as a piece of art. First, we had to rip a piece of paper to make it look like a mountain range. After that, we had to get a paintbrush and flick white paint to make stars.  Then we had to use chalk pastels to make the Aurora and smudge it up the paper. Finally, we had to make the Matariki stars. Here is mine.

As early as 1616, the astronomer Galileo Galilei used the name aurora borealis to describe them, taking the name of the mythical Roman goddess of the dawn, Aurora, and the Greek name for the wind of the north, Boreas. The aurora australis, or the southern lights, occur around the south polar region. The northern lights are caused by collisions between fast-moving particles, from space and the oxygen and nitrogen gas in our atmosphere. Energetic electrically charged particles (mostly electrons) accelerate along the magnetic field lines into the upper atmosphere, where they collide with gas atoms, causing the atoms to give off light.

Render Forest About Questions

Kia ora bloggers,

When reading a book, have you ever been curious about something you were reading, and wanted to find out more to help you understand what you were reading better?  We have been learning about how important this is this week in Literacy.

When we read The Magic School Bus inside the human body’ I formed some advanced questions using ‘how’ and ‘why’.  I made sure they were open-ended questions that would help me understand the book more.  An example of one of my questions was “Why are intestines coiled up?’ and I then researched and found out that an adults intestine is 7.5m long, so it needs to coil up so that it fits in the body.

Next, we got to choose our own book to read out of our virtual library and we had to form 3 advanced questions about it.  Our create task this week was to share these in a creative way.  I chose to do it with Renderforest and it was about a book called ‘In the blood’

I really enjoyed this task as it made me realise how important it is to do this when reading to understand the text better.

Do you ever do further research when you are reading a book to deepen your understanding?

Amazing Adobe

Kia ora bloggers,
This week for literacy we have been learning about inferencing and show not tell.  When we read something, we automatically start making inferences, so it is important when we write that we give clues in our writing that allow people to make inferences.  We want to show them - not tell them.

For example, Paul was frustrated when he got to the bus stop and realised he had just missed the bus.  But instead, I could write “Running as fast as he could, Paul turned the corner only to see the back of the bus as it pulled away.  Throwing his bag down on the ground and sighing out loud, Paul realised that he had no choice, but to sit and wait for the next bus to arrive - 20 minutes from now”  You can infer from me saying ‘throwing his bag down and sighing out loud’ that he is frustrated.
Our task was to create a video that accompanied a piece of writing about an elderly man.  We used Adobe Spark to do this.

Have a look at my video and see if you can you make some inferences about what I have written.
Do you think the elderly man is happy?

Crazy Compass

Kia ora Bloggers,
This week in maths we have been looking at angles and polygons. We have been determining the interior angles of a shape as well as drawing some shapes using a compass- not a North/South compass, but a pair of compasses that you draw circles with.
A little run down of my knowledge is this.

And here are some examples of the work we have done on angles.

Friday, May 22, 2020

Angles or Angels?

Hey bloggers, for maths we learnt how to name angles they are the obtuse, acute, reflex and right angle. This was really fun to learn. Did you know those angles? And we learnt how to use a protractor. Have you used a protractor? I think I did really well in this task I hope you think that too. We first had to put three different numbers and label the angle. And then use the protractor to find the measurement to the question. Please measurement comment if I need to improve on anything.

The Terrible Twits

Kia ora Bloggers,
What’s going on in this picture? Look closely at the image above or view it in a <a href="https://static01.nyt.com/images/2020/04/17/learning/VTS04-20-20LN/VTS04-20-20LN-superJumbo.jpg">larger size</a>, then tell us what you see by posting a comment. On Thursday afternoon, we will reveal more about the image and its origins at the bottom of this post.

This week we have been looking carefully at making inferences when we read or watch something.

An inference is when we take clues from a text or image, and
add them to our thoughts or prior knowledge and make an inference.
For example,  when I look at this photo, I might make the inference that
this photo was taken in a food factory as everyone is wearing hair
nets and this is required in all food factories.

The text that we read a snippet out of was ‘The Twits’ by Roald Dahl.
Once we had read the first few chapters where they described the main characters, Mr and Mrs Twit, we then had to make some inferences based on the clues that Roald Dahl had given in the text.

I used Google Draw to create a display of my inferences I have made about Mr and Mrs Twit.

Have you read The Twits before?  Do you agree with my inferences? What inferences would you make about the characters?

See you next time!

Wonderful Week 5 Mashup

Hey Bloggers, this is my week 5 mashup. First for literacy we have been reading the book Going Solo by Roald Dahl. We had to make a biography about him and his life. We could do this on any DLO, and I chose Canva because it is very cool and easy to use. Have you read one of Roald Dahl books before? Did you know he sold 250 million books? For my Tech Challenge, I had to choose any options off the site we were sent and I chose the Fabric Fun. It was really cool to make because we had to sew all the stitches and put the buttons and the tongue, as you can see I have made a Snake. Have you made a sock puppet before? For maths, I had to answer the questions that we were set about volume and capacity. This was a really fun activity to do. Do you know the answers to the questions I had to answer? Please comment if I need to Improve on anything I would love the feedback from you. I think I did really well on all of the work that I did.

Super Survival

In literacy, we have been reading Going Solo by Roald Dahl. It tells his story from where Boy left off.

He went to Africa to work for The Shell Company and he has many adventures there. Some of these are really funny.
He then joined the RAF to fly in WW2.

We have recreated a part of the story where his plane crashes in the desert. He manages to survive although he is blinded by the crash and badly injured. He does get his sight back eventually.

Going Solo is a great novel that I would recommend you read.

What is your favourite part of the book?

Stain Glass Window Challenge

Tech Challenge
Hey Bloggers, For this Technology challenge I had to make a Stain Glass Window. The first step was: Draw a template or create your own personalised design. The second step was: Use a black crayon or black marker to outline the framework and leading edges. Then we had to rub linseed oil carefully on the back of the paper to get a transparent look/effect. That step was really cool. After that, I had to cut around my shape and then hang it up and take a photo and send it to the tech teacher. Please comment if I need to improve on anything. Please comment I would love the feedback. Overall I think I did extremely well hope you think that too. Have you done this before?

Magnificent Mambas

Hey Bloggers, this week in Literacy we are reading a book called Going Solo by Roald Dahl. On the first slide, I have made an Infomation report on a Black Mamba. There is great Infomation in it. On the second slide, I had to come up with an idea to finish the chapter. I think I did really well on both of the tasks. Please comment if I need to improve on anything. Did you know that Black Mamba can go to the speed of 12.5 miles per hour? That's quick! I used slides to present this because it is really easy and cool to use.

Amazing Pizza

Kia ora bloggers, Do you like pineapple on pizza? For this Christchurch East Technology challenge, I had to make my own homemade pizza and make everything from scratch. I think I made a great pizza, please comment if you think it looks good. I really enjoyed making it I recommend you give it a go. Please comment if you think I should add something on my pizza I would love the feedback. I also had to make a pizza box. I drew the pizza box on paper and then coloured it in and took a photo of it. If you have made your own pizza I would love to see what you have made in the comments. I had stakeholders to give feedback on the pizza that I made and if I can improve next time. The stakeholders were my family members.

The Great Giraffe

Kia ora bloggers, Did you know that a Giraffe is the tallest animal in the world? For this task, I had to make an Infomation report on a Giraffe. One interesting fact I found out was that their hearts are at the bottom of their neck and defies gravity and pumps blood up its neck into its brain Imagine that. And they have got the same amount of neck bones as a human but bigger. What is your favourite animal? Do they have interesting facts? Please comment if I need to improve on anything. I think my writing is pretty good, please read and tell me if you found the facts interesting? I would love the feedback. I got the information from a book called Incredible But True Animals by Barbara Toft, that I have and it tells me all about any animal I want. Plus I watched a video that my teachers sent us. Here is the link.

Lemon Yoghurt Cake

Hey Bloggers, Today it is my Dads Birthday he turned 41 years old. He got Lollies and liquorice and will get some new sunglasses after lockdown. We made him a cake. This is the recipe.

For the cake you will need, 125g of butter, 1 cup of caster sugar, 2 Lemons, finely grated rind (save the juice for icing), 3 eggs, 1 cup of flour, 1 tsp of baking powder and 3 quarters of a cup of yoghurt.

For the icing, you will need. 1 cup of icing sugar, the juice of 2 lemons and 1 extra lemon zest for decoration.

Heat oven to 160C fan bake. Grease a 20cm spring-form cake tin. Combine softened butter, sugar and lemon zest in a bowl and beat with an electric mixer until pale and creamy. Beat in eggs, one at a time.
  1. Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with yoghurt, stirring to just combine and form a smooth batter.
  2. Spoon mixture into prepared tin and bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a skewer inserted comes out clean. Transfer to a wire rack to cool. Once cold, remove the cake from the tin and spoon over lemon drizzle icing so it covers the top and runs down the sides of the cake. Decorate with extra lemon zest, if desired.
  3. To make the icing, combine sifted icing sugar and lemon juice in a bowl and stir to form a smooth and pourable icing. Add a little boiling water, if necessary, to achieve the correct consistency.

How to do the amazing mean in math

Hello bloggers,

In Maths we are learning on mean, median and mode. Our teacher Mrs.Osborn set us a task we had to make an animation or screencastify. And we chose an animation because we both like doing animation way better then screencastify. Have you done a animation on mean, median or mode before?

Perfect Portrait

Kia ora bloggers, welcome back to a new school year.
I hope you had a great happy new year. I wish the holidays went for longer, don't you? This year the teachers made us do self-portraits of our selves. So that was pretty fun. This didn't come out as I expected it to. The images around it show what I like doing.

As you can see in the background I have put A rugby ball, cricket bat and ball, and a baseball because I like playing those sports. Next, I put animals and drew a Bird, Penguin, and a Panda cause those are my favorite animals. Then I drew food like pineapple, donut, pizza, and a ice-block. After I put Family in the picture I am on the left my Dad is beside me, my Mum is beside my Dad and then my sister was on the right. Then I put friends and it is just me and my friend walking. I put the England and New Zealand flag because that is where my family is from and I put a rose for England and a kiwi for NZ. I put a fish and a fishing rod because I like fishing. I put my pets in this as well my cat and Dog. I put a bike because I love to go mountain biking. And put a gaming controller because I like playing video games.

Have you done a portrait before comment if you have?
