Ernest Rutherford

In 1911, he was the first to discover that atoms have a small charged nucleus surrounded by largely empty space, and are circled by tiny electrons he was also the first person to split the atom.  Ernest Rutherford postulated the nuclear structure of the atom, discovered alpha and beta rays and proposed the laws of radioactive decay. He received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1908.

The Battle

In Reading for term 4 we have a must-do every week. This weeks must-do is called Battle. We have to make a copy and then read pages 40 and 41. Every Friday in the morning we do coding. We have a choice between doing a dance party or flappy bird. I chose to do a dance party because I like music. I had lots of fun doing this. For cybersmart, we had to do a holiday SIT if you don't know what a holiday SIT is it is a vlog that you reflect on your holiday. Writing Starters

For Writing every time we start writing with a picture that our teacher Mrs Atkinson makes us do and each day there is a different picture. My favourite one was the Shark Attack. I was surprised that on the quiz what rugby player you are I was Kieren Read and my favourite rugby player is Beauden Barrett. It was interesting that Syria was the strictest country in the world because it is a really good country. I recommend that after you have done the quiz you can do it again. The Washing machine

For reading, we had a task the task was to read The Washing Machine and then we had to make a google slide. After that, we had to do the vocabulary and make up a new title for the book and why. This week is Maori week so in reading, we had a task and the task was we had to read the book How Māui slowed the sun. and then we had to make up a new title what we think will happen next and say the right pronunciation of the karakia. Why korimako should have an amazing class pet

For writing this term we are doing persuasive writing. The topic was what does our class need or what we could have. I chose a class pet because they can keep you company, you can sit next to it every day and kids will actually want to go to school. Things That I'm Thankful For

For blogging, the principal of our school made a task and the task was we had to go on canvas which is a photo collage website. And we had to get some things that we are thankful for I chose Beauden Barrett because he is my favourite rugby player. The reason why I chose the photo of mt Cook is that New Zealand is a great country. I chose money because if we didn't have money we couldn't buy anything. A Long Lost Father

For this term in reading, we had a must-do, first, we had to read a book called A long lost father. Then we had to make a wanted poster because the girl in the books father got lost. And make a set of where the story is set. Please comment if I have done anything wrong or if I can improve. 

Geometry

In math this term we are learning geometry and we had a task to do that we had to do.  First, we made a tesselation and then we did symmetry. Please comment if I need to improve on anything or something I can work on.

Bart and Orville

For reading this term we had an ako task. Firstly we had to read the book and then we had to make a slide and copy two of the slides that are pink as you can see. I think I did really well in this task. Please comment if I need to improve on something or something I could do better.

Brawn vs Brain Persuasive Writing

For writing this term we have been learning persuasive writing. For this task, we had to make a rubric and start planning our writing. Then we had to start writing are an introduction and we had to do the writing in paragraphs. I chose brawn over brain because I am really sporty. Winter Tournament Reflection

On Wednesday the 7th of August the year 5/6 Marshland Rugby team went to winter tournament at Rawhiti Domain. In our grade, we had 5 teams on a 50-meter rugby field. We won the first 4 games, drew1 and lost 1 game. I think our team did really well in the winter tournament. The first game was Haeata vs Marshlands and we won 20 to 5. The second game we versed Te Pa and won 20 nil. The third game we versed we versed Queenspark and won 20 nil. The fourth game we versed South Brighton and we drew 10 all. The fifth game we versed Banks Avenue and won 5 nil.  And in the playoffs, we versed South Brighton and lost 10 to 5. If I go back there and do it again I would appeal to the ref more because in the final there were unfair decisions and the ref was biased. Out of the 5 R's I think I used Resilience because some of the decisions in the final were unfair.

Language Features

For reading, we have been learning the language features. Our teacher Mr Sutherland set us an ako task and we had to get all examples of language features from the book that we are reading mine is the 117 story-tree house. My Pepeha

In Te Reo, we have been doing  Pepeha's. For this task, First we had to email our parents about our family where we were from and where our ancestors were from. We could choose to do a biteable or slide as you can see I did slides cause it is a lot easier. Then we had to get a bitmoji that looks exactly like ourselves. But if none of them looks like you our teacher would make one like us. This is a work in progress and please comment if I need to improve on anything or I have done something similar to you. Definitions

In reading, we are learning definitions. In this task, we had to search for some definitions that our teacher Mr Sutherland set us. This is really fun. please comment if I need to improve anything or if I have done anything similar. This is still a work in progress.

The Origin of Food

For Homebase Hauora, we had to choose our favourite food and write about it and who made it etc. I think I did really well in this task because I finished it on the first day. What would you choose if you did this? Please comment if I can improve on something or if you have done something similar.

Persuasive Writing Rubric

For Writing, we have been learning persuasive writing. First, we had to make a copy of a rubric that our teacher Mr Sutherland sent us. And then we had to fill the whole thing out and after we did that we are allowed to make it all colourful and pretty. This is still in a work in progress. In reading, we chose a novel of our own choice and I chose The Explorer. This is a really good book to read I recommend it. I think I did really well and please comment if I need to improve on something.

My Sick Cat

  My Sick Cat

Meow!!! “What was that noise?” Liam whispered. “I don't know Blake whispered”. We slowly crept down the hallway and slowly opened the door and we saw my cat sitting there screeching and puking we thought how are we going to help her. “I think we should take her to the vet”. We crept to Blake’s parent's bedroom and we said we are taking Fleur to the vet on our RAZORS. Why did Mum explain? Fleur is sick! And we are really responsible children. So can we please borrow $190.00. We will be back in 1-hour bye! We put Fleur in her cage and I will carry Fleur on my razor! We put the garage door down and scooted to the vet. We sat down and waited until they took us in. We waited a few minutes then they said “Blake and Liam” We took her in a small room and said what was wrong with Fleur. The doctor said, “how long has this been happening”? Said the Doctor “Since we woke up”! We said, “What's wrong with her”? Said the Doctor “She has been puking and sneezing non-stop”. “Take this medicine and put it in her food 1 day”. Ok, thank you very much”. Liam and Blake went back home and feed Fleur her food and put one pill in it. She came over to her bowl and sniffed it then she gobbled it all up and then licked her lips. After that, we told her to go to bed and then she raced to her bed. The next day Fleur was all better. That night we heard a huge MEOW!!! “Oh no,” Liam said. 


In Mr Bell 's reading group we had to make a narrative story. Blake and I came up with the idea about Blake's sick cat and changed it into a narrative story. Please comment if we have done something wrong or something we could add. We hope you enjoy our story.

 

Sol Matariki

For Sol which is student organize learning, we had a set task to do with Matariki. First, we had to answer what is Matariki and do two more questions on your own. In Writing, I have been learning about information reports. I got to choose an animal or natural disaster. I chose a Tiger because they are really cool, fierce and strong. For this term in inquiry, we have been doing the power of nature. And we had to do a Life cycle of any animal we liked. I chose a frog. This was really fun.

In class, we had to make a kit on anything we wanted to. I and my friend Adam did team kits for our basketball team, our rugby team, cricket team and our boxing team kit. This was really fun to do and I recommend you do this too.

Going Solo Biteable

For this task, we got to do a biteable about the novel that we are reading. First, we had to read the book for 20 mins. Then we had some questions that our teacher Mr Bell made us do. Hope you like it.

Mind Swapping-Body Swapping Machine

This term in reading we have started reading Barking Mad. And we had to make a mind-swapping or body swapping machine. This is mine. Then we had to write the parts of it and put some instructions too. It was really fun. BTW it is a bird and a spider mixed together.

Korimako Kororwai

In korimako this term our goal is the power of belonging. So we made a Korowai and we each got given a feather to colour in however we wished. Then we put it into a Korowai. I think this made me belong in our hub, don't you? Here is a little photo of it. 

Maori Animaton

Our task was to make a presentation with Maori greetings and put it on our blog. We had to use multiple greetings to create something that we could share with other people. We were set this task because Maori is one of our national languages. It also helped us improve our Maori vocabulary.

Camp Reflection

On Wednesday 20th of February, we went on a school trip to Living Springs Camp. We drove to the farm park but had to drive back to Governors Bay. We did a coastal walk to the camp farm park that was around 2 kilometres and then there was a physically demanding walk up the hill to the camp. We arrived at the camp at about 1:30 in the afternoon when we were meant to arrive at 10:30.
